Applications are now open for two undergraduate nursing students to participate in a short-term exchange February 2 – 7, 2025 at Keio University Faculty of Nursing and Medicine in Tokyo, Japan.
Exchange Details
The purpose of the exchange is to provide educational opportunities for nursing students to learn and discuss challenges for an aging society as a global health situation and the role of a nurse in this issue. You will meet other nursing students from Japan, Korea, China, Singapore and the UK. In this exchange, you will participate in lectures, group work, discussion with your peers and visits to the Keio University campuses (Shinanomachi and Shonan Fujisawa), community nursing clinics and Keio University Hospital.
The UW Center for Global Health Nursing (CGHN) together with the de Tornyay Center for Healthy Aging (dTC) will be supporting this effort. All awardees will be asked to present a poster at the Spring School of Nursing Scholarship Day in May and at the CGHN Scholar Celebration inMarch acknowledging both the CGHN and the dTC on the poster. The Centers will contact you before the events with more details regarding the poster presentations and will pay for the poster. The scholar must
also be willing to be interviewed about their experience by the dTC’s public information specialist after their return.

Funding Details
This opportunity covers the costs of the program fees, lodging, and airfare. Additional transportation and meals not provided by the program will be covered by the student.
Selection Criteria
Selection will be based on the following criteria:
- Interest in/commitment to gerontology, aging
- Quality of the application, including answering application questions and have proofread their responses
- Must be in good student standing
- Ability to obtain required travel documents in order to travel internationally by February 2 – 7.
- This includes valid passport and a short-term visa (if applicable). If you are unsure whether you need a visa or not, visit The Ministry of Foreign Affairs to see if you will need a short-term visit visa. Note: US passport holders do not need a visa to attend.
