Overview
The Graduate Certificate in Global Health Nursing is a stand-alone certificate for current graduate students in any UW School of Nursing graduate program. Graduates of the Global Health Nursing Certificate gain mentorship, foundational knowledge and skills, and hands-on practical experience in global health fields including infectious diseases, sexual and reproductive health, maternal child health, mobile health (mHealth), and non-communicable diseases. Graduates of the Certificate in Global Health Nursing will:
- Identify current global health issues and concerns, policies, processes, programs, and practices that contribute to and hinder global health improvement.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the interdisciplinary approaches to addressing global health issues with a focus on promoting nursing leadership in both domestic and global spheres
- Integrate a global ethical framework into practice based on human rights, cultural diversity, and social justice
- Utilize program and policy strategies to address major global burden of diseases both locally and globally
- Be able to plan, design, and evaluate community-based primary health care programs and capacity strengthening initiatives
- Identify and apply approaches to strategic analysis, collaboration, partnership, and program management in global health.
The certificate requires 15 credits to complete, including:
- 6 required core credits
- 6 elective credits from the School of Nursing or any department throughout campus
- 3 credit independent study capstone
